MEET RESULTS
Midwest Conference Championships at Ripon College (May 10-11)
Sally Schonfeld won two titles and was named one of the meet's outstanding performers to lead the Lawrence women to third place. The Vikings finished with 98 points, and Monmouth won the title with 208. Schonfeld won the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 53.52 seconds, and teammate Lisa Tranel placed fifth in 5:05.80. Schonfeld led a 1-2 Lawrence sweep in the 5,000, as she won the event in 18:43.51 and Valerie Curtis took second in 18:43.61.
Shelley Ebert continued her dominance in the 800, winning the event for the second consecutive year outdoors to go along with the last two indoor titles. Ebert ran a time of 2:17.69.
Curtis also placed second in the 10,000 in 39:03.18 and second in the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:51.22. Schonfeld placed fifth in the steeplechase in 12:09.14 and Tranel was sixth in 12:09.21.
The versatile Sarah Slivinski placed in five events. She was fifth in the javelin (99 feet, 11 inches), fifth in the high jump (5-0), sixth in the long jump (16-6), sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:09.78), and eighth in the triple jump (32-8.5).
Jess Moser placed in two events. She grabbed third in the 200 meters in 26.92 seconds and was eighth in the 400 meters in 1:02.34.
Lawrence's 1,600 relay team placed third in 4:11.59, and the 400 relay team was fourth in 52.28 seconds.
The Lawrence men placed seventh with 39.5 points, and Monmouth took the title with 206. Sam Buckett was Lawrence's top finisher, taking second in the pole vault with a height of 14-0. Buckett also took eighth in the long jump at 21-1.25.
Senior Eric Davis placed in three events. He took fourth in the 1,500 in 4:04.86, fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:06.33, and eighth in the 5,000 in 16:21.33.
Aaron Guigar was third in the pole vault at 13-0, Don Smith placed third in the 800 in 1:57.55, Josh Meyer was third in the high jump at 6-0, and Steve Geisthardt took eighth in the 110 hurdles in 17.76 seconds.
University of Wisconsin Twilight (May 4)
The Lawrence women had two athletes break school records and two more earn provisional qualifying spots for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Sarah Slivinski broke the Lawrence record in the 400-meter hurdles, and Mary Markowitz set a new mark in the pole vault. Slivinski's 1 minute, 6.09 seconds, breaks the record of 1:07.52 set by Rhae Schneider in 1999. Markowitz vaulted 8-6 to break the record of 8-0 set by Alyssa Bonine in 1998.
Sally Schonfeld and Valerie Curtis both were provisional qualifiers in the 3,000 steeplechase after placing second and third, respectively. Schonfeld's time was 11:37.22 and Curtis came in at 11:57.15.
Other top performers for the Lawrence women were: Jess Moser (fifth, 400, 1:01.29), Shelley Ebert (fourth, 800, 2:22.0), Lisa Tranel (sixth, steeplechase, 12:30.30), Slivinski (fifth, javelin, 95-0).
Sam Buckett led the Lawrence men by placing fourth in the pole vault at 13-11.
Wisconsin Private College Championships at Lawrence University (April 30)
Lawrence placed third in both the men's and women's meet. Ripon women the women's title with 158 points, and Lawrence had 131. On the men's side, St. Norbert took the title with 189 and Lawrence had 99.
Shelley Ebert led the Lawrence women by grabbing first in the 800 meters in 2:18.21 and winning the 1,500 in 4:53.07. Valerie Curtis won the 10,000 in 39:53.71 and took second in the 5,000 in 18:50.65. Jess Moser won the 200 meters in 27.12 seconds and was third in the 400 in 1:00.52. Sarah Slivinski won the javelin with a throw of 33.52 meters and place in four other events (third, 400 hurdles, 1:09.03; third, high jump, 1.48 meters; third, long jump, 4.42 meters; third, triple jump, 9.90 meters).
Other top finishers for the Lawrence women were: Sally Schonfeld (second, 3,000 steeplechase, 11:37.64), Lisa Tranel (third, 3,000 steeplechase, 12:18.81), Kelly Scheer (second, 10,000, 43:24.76), Michelle Milne (second, 100 hurdles, 16.99), and Mary Markowitz (third, pole vault, 2.59 meters).
Eric Davis won the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:15.95 and took second in the 5,000 in 16:33.54. Sam Buckett won the pole vault with a height of 3.81 meters and took second in the 110 hurdles in 17.67. Steve Geisthardt won the 400 hurdles in 1:00.42 and was second in the 110 hurdles in 18.03. Don Smith was second in the 800 in 1:57.24, and he anchored the winning 1,600 relay team, which had a time of 3:29.11. Adam Wood placed second in the pole vault at 3.51 meters.
Carthage College Invitational (April 20)
The Lawrence women placed fifth among the 14 teams with 60 points, and Sarah Slivinski won the heptathlon. Slivinski scored 3,855 points in the event to beat Carthage's Tina Moran by nearly 70 points.
Also placing for the Lawrence women were: Shelley Ebert (fourth, 1,500, 4:57.18), Lisa Tranel (fifth, 3,000 steeplechase, 13:06.37), Jess Moser (sixth, 200 meters, 26.62), 1,600 relay (second, 4:24.37), and the 400 relay (fifth, 54.70).
The Lawrence men were sixth among the 15 teams with 42 points. Eric Davis paced the Lawrence men by taking fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:26.51, and Sam Buckett took fourth in the decathlon with 5,295 points. Others placing for the Vikings were: Don Smith (fifth, 200, 22.64), Steve Geisthardt (fifth, 400 hurdles, 1:04.40), Aaron Guigar (fifth, pole vault, 11-6.25), Ken Leising (fifth, triple jump, 37-10), and the 1,600 relay 3:35.07.
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational (April 13)
The Lawrence women placed fifth out of 16 teams with 65 points. Carthage College took first with 161 points.
Shelly Ebert took home first in the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 18.65 seconds. Sarah Slivinski also scored significant points for the Vikings. She grabbed fifth in the 400 meters in 1:09.64, sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.47 meters, and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.70 meters. Other point scorers for the Vikings included: Kelly Scheer (second, 5,000, 19:38.50), Sally Schonfeld (second, 1,500, 4:54.01), Jess Moser (fourth, 400, 1:01.56), Mary Markowitz (eight, pole vault, 2.45 meters), 1,600 relay (third, 4:11.26), and 400 relay (seventh, 53.20). Katy Roll also ran unattached and won the1,500 meters in 4:53.68.
Eric Davis was the lone placewinner for the Lawrence men. He placed fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:26.40. UW-Whitewater won the men's meet with a score of 168.50.
Ripon College Invitational (April 6)
The Lawrence women finished fifth with 75.5 points, and Carroll won the title with 222 points. The Lawrence men took sixth with 43 points, and Carroll won the team title with 189.
Kelly Scheer led the Lawrence women by winning the 10,000 meters in 40 minutes, 17.03 seconds, and Sarah Slivinski placed in four events (second, javelin, 102-3; third, high jump, 4-8; fourth, long jump, 15-2; fourth, triple jump, 33-2.5). Other top finishers for the Vikings were: Shelley Ebert (second, 400, 1:01.40), Sally Schonfeld (second, 1,500, 5:01.98), Valerie Curtis (third, 5,000, 19:12.20), Michelle Milne (third, 100 hurdles, 17.62), Jess Moser (fifth, 400, 1:03.84), and the 1,600 relay (third, 4:21.90).
Don Smith paced the Vikings by winning the 800 meters in 2:00.20. Other top finishers for the Vikings were: Steve Geisthardt (second, 400 hurdles, 1:01.20), Josh Meyer (third, high jump, 6-0), Sam Buckett (fourth, long jump, 19-9; sixth, pole vault, 12-0), Eric Davis (sixth, 1,500, 4:27.35), and 1,600 relay (third, 3:34.70).
Emory University Invitational (March 29-30)
The Vikings failed to score points in the men's and women's meets. On the men's side, Lawrence's highest finishers were Jesse Norton and Steve Hahn, who placed 17th and 18th, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Kelly Scheer was Lawrence's top finisher on the women's side. She placed 16th in the 5,000 meters.
