Lawrence Men's Tennis Team
The Lawrence University men's tennis team gets the honor after knocking off Ripon College last Saturday. The Vikings defeated the Red Hawks 4-3 in a Midwest Conference match, and it marked the first time Lawrence had beaten Ripon since April 21, 1984. The win was clinched when Brian Hilgeman, playing No. 4 singles, defeated Alex Wente 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. The Vikings won four of the six singles matches, with Fabrice Munyakazi-Juru (No. 2), Nick Beyler (No. 3), and Junpei Furukawa (No. 6) also winning in singles. Beyler and Hilgeman teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles, and Hilgeman was also named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week. The Vikings kicked off their season last Friday with a 7-0 victory over Marian College. No Lawrence player lost more than four games, as the Vikings routed the Sabres.
