Jenny Burris
Softball
Jenny Burris hit .727 on the week to lead Lawrence to a 4-0 record and a berth in the Midwest Conference Tournament. The Gurnee, Ill., native went 8-for-11 with four runs scored, a triple, two home runs, and three runs batted in. She had a 1.455 slugging percentage on the week and .769 on-base percentage. In the first game of the week last Thursday, Burris, who went 3-for-4, hit a game-winning homer in the top of the seventh in Lawrence's 3-2 victory over Carroll. In the nightcap, a 4-2 Lawrence win, Burris went 1-for-1, her only hit being a solo homer, but reached base all three times she went to the plate courtesy of a walk and hit batsman. In Saturday's opener against Beloit, she went 1-for-3 with a triple in Lawrence's 5-0 victory. In the nightcap, the former Warren Township High School standout was was 2-for-3 in Lawrence's 1-0 victory.
Kevin Fitzsimmons
Baseball
Kevin Fitzsimmons batted .667 on the week and helped the Vikings sweep four games from Carroll College. The La Crosse native was 10-for-15 with a double and eight runs batted in. He went 2-for-4 in both games at Carroll last Thursday, scoring a run in the first game, a 5-0 Lawrence win, and driving in a run in the second, an 8-6 Lawrence victory. In the opener this past Saturday, he went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in Lawrence's 18-1 victory. He followed that up by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs in Lawrence's 6-5 10-inning victory. He drove in the winning run with a single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. The former standout at La Crosse Central High School raised his average on the season to .329 and Lawrence improved to 13-13 overall and 4-4 in the MWC.
Lauren Kost
Softball
Lauren Kost won every game for the Vikings this week, going 4-0 with a 0.26 earned run average. On the week, the junior pitcher from Carol Stream, Ill., struck out 17 and walked only one while allowing the opposition to hit only .158. She started her week with a 3-2 win over Carroll last Thursday in which she went the distance, striking out six and walking none. In the 4-2 win the nightcap, she went the distance again, striking out four and walking one. She followed that up by tossing 13 shutout innings against Beloit. She struck out seven and didn't walk a batter, as Lawrence beat the Bucs 5-0 and 1-0 to secure a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament. Kost is 15-6 with a 1.29 earned run average on the season.
Andy Link
Golf
Andy Link paced Lawrence University at the Gustavus Adolphus College Spring Invitational on April 19-20 and was chosen as the Midwest Conference Golfer of the Week. Link, a sophomore from Rochester, Minn., won the award after taking seventh place at Gustavus Adolphus. The former Century High School star carded rounds of 72 and 76 at LeSueur Country Club and a 75 at the Ridges at Sand Creek to finish with an 11-over 223. The field included a number of elite teams from the Midwest Region. Led by Link, who paces the team with a 76.0 stroke average this spring, Lawrence finished seventh among the 14 teams.
Michelle Milne
Track and Field
Lawrence University standout Michelle Milne was chosen as the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week. Milne, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., captured the honor after winning a pair of events at the Ripon College Invitational this past Saturday. The former Sandia Prep star won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.08 seconds and was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.08. Those are her fastest times of the season in both events. Led by Milne, Lawrence took fourth place among the ten teams.
