Men's Tennis
Nick Beyler improved his singles record to
7-2 overall, including 3-0 in Midwest Conference play, with a pair of wins
this weekend. Beyler, a senior from Madison, beat Monmouth College's Kevin
Kamenjarin 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles on Friday in Lawrence's 4-3 win. He then
defeated Ripon College's Dave Czarnecki 6-3, 7-5 on Saturday for Lawrence's
lone win a 6-1 loss to the Red Hawks.
Joe Loehnis
Golf
Joe Loehnis finished in a tie for 15th place at the tough Wartburg College Invitational this past weekend. Loehnis, a junior from Appleton, carded a 3-over par round of 75 at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in the opening round and then shot a 2-over par 72 at Waverly Municipal Golf Course in the second round for a 36-hole total of 147, seven shots off the winning total. Led by Loehnis' effort, Lawrence finished seventh in the 20-team tournament.
Josh Richie
Baseball
Josh Richie, a sophomore pitcher from Ellsworth, took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before settling for a 7-2 win over Carroll College last Thursday. Richie went the distance and allowed no earned runs and five hits (all singles) while striking out six and walking four. He also retired the only batter he faced in relief during last Saturday's doubleheader. For week, Richie pitched 9 1/3 innings with a 0.00 earned run average while allowing the opposition to hit only .152 against him.
