Women's Tennis Team
This one was a long time coming. The Lawrence University women's tennis team earns the honor this week after knocking off Ripon College 5-4 in a dual match last Thursday. It marked Lawrence's first dual match victory over Ripon since Sept. 13, 1987. Lawrence led 2-1 after the doubles, as Loni Philbrick-Linzmeyer and Adriana Teodoro-Dier dispatched their Ripon counterparts 8-5 at No. 2 and Amy Gammon and Leila Sahar won 8-1 at No. 3. Philbrick-Linzmeyer beat Katie Engbring 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6 singles and Teodoro-Dier beat Kara Wagner 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Ripon won the matches at Nos. 2-4 singles to tie the match at 4-4. It all came down to freshman Susan Klumpner at No. 1 singles, and she beat Etta Hilligoss 6-2, 7-6 (7-0 in the tiebreaker) to win the match for Lawrence. The victory pushed Lawrence's record to 3-0 on the season.
