Women's Tennis
Serene Sahar led the Lawrence University women's tennis team with her outstanding play this past week. Sahar went 5-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles, while the Vikings posted a 3-2 record in dual meets. Sahar, a junior from New Berlin, led the Vikings to wins over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Illinois College, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Sahar, playing No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, picked up both points in a loss to Carroll College. She defeated Batie Bobholz 7-5, 6-3 in singles, and teamed with Susan Klumpner to beat Melisse' Wen and Betsy Aebly 8-1 in doubles. In the win over the Pointers, Sahar beat Angie Brown 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in singles and took her only loss of the week in doubles. She came back to beat Illinois College's Erin Bybee 6-3, 6-1 and teamed with Klumpner for an 8-6 win over Bybee and Laura Lawson. Sahar defeated Beloit College's Erin Stumper 6-1, 6-1 in singles, and she and Klumpner pulled out a 9-8 (8-6) win over Crystal Ertman and Stumper in doubles. Sahar capped her week with a 6-0, 6-1 win over MSOE's Amanda Endres in singles and an 8-4 victory over Endres and Elisha Dochida in doubles. Sahar was chosen as the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
A.J. Walker
Football
A.J. Walker turned in career highs in yards and carries in Lawrence University's 62-30 loss to Ripon College this past Saturday. The sophomore halfback carried 25 times for 125 yards and scored a touchdown against the Red Hawks. The former star at Chicago's Westinghouse High School loves to play against Ripon. In two career games vs. the Red Hawks, Walker has 31 carries for 174 yards, an average of 5.6 yards per carry.
