Ben Dictus went 3-0 and won the 184-pound championship at the North Central College Invitational. The Kimberly native pinned Cameron Soran of the University of Chicago in 3:10 in the quarterfinals. Dictus then defeated Matt Zickafoose of Manchester 7-2 in the semifinals. Dictus won the title with a 3-2 win over Olivet's Ryan Newberry. Dictus, sidelined by a knee injury early in the season, is now 9-1 on the season with three pins and is ranked eighth in the latest Division III poll.
Kyle MacGillis
Men's Basketball
Kyle MacGillis led Lawrence to three victories this week to keep the Vikings unbeaten. MacGillis averaged 23.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 59.5 percent (22-37) from the floor, including 70.0 percent (7-10) on 3-pointers, and 78.3 percent (18-23) from the free-throw line. In Lawrence's 65-61 win at Beloit, the Wauwatosa native scored 16 points, grabbed three rebounds and handed out four assists. MacGillis, a former star at Milwaukee Pius XI High School, also hit a key jumper in the final two minutes that helped Lawrence rally for the win. In the Vikings' 125-110 win over Grinnell, MacGillis scored a career-high 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds, had four assists, and picked up five steals. He finished the week with 26 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in Lawrence's 78-57 win over Lake Forest. He hit 10 of 13 shots from the floor against the Foresters, and that included making 6 of 7 from beyond the 3-point line.
Kelly Mulcahy
Women's Basketball
Kelly Mulcahy led Lawrence to three victories this past week and averaged 17 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in the process. The Glendale native scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 64-48 win at Beloit. The former star at Nicolet High School followed that with 13 points and three rebounds in an 83-77 win over Grinnell. Mulcahy finished the week with 20 points and eight rebounds in a 73-64 victory over Lake Forest. For the week, Mulcahy shot 58.8 percent (20-34) from the floor and shot 78.6 percent (11-14) from the foul line. She also picked up 10 steals in the three games.
