Kevin Fitzsimmons
Baseball
Kevin Fitzsimmons put on an unprecedented power display against Ripon College last week. The senior first baseman from La Crosse homered in three consecutive at-bats, including twice in the same inning, against the Red Hawks at Whiting Field. The Vikings trailed 8-1 in the second game of the doubleheader when Fitzsimmons led off the sixth inning with a homer. He capped the same inning by hitting a three-run homer to give Lawrence a 9-8 lead. Two innings later, he came to the plate again with Lawrence down 11-9 and belted a two-run homer to tie the game at 11-11. The game was then suspended due to darkness. He later finished that game 4-for-7 with six runs batted in. In the opening game of the doubleheader, Fitzsimmons hit a solo homer in Lawrence's 9-7 loss.
Joe Loehnis
Golf
Joe Loehnis grabbed second place at the Wartburg College Invitational this past weekend and carded a career-low round of 67 in the process. Playing in brutal conditions the first day, the Appleton native shot 80 on the par-72 layout at Centennial Oaks. He followed that with a 3-under par 67 on Saturday at Waverly Country Club for a 36-hole total of 147. Loehnis' 67 tied the low round of the tournament, which was shared by Luther's Ben Hanson, who won the tourney by four shots. Loehnis, a former star at Appleton North High School, was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Loni Philbrick-Linzmeyer
Softbal
Loni Philbrick-Linzmeyer batted a healthy .588 during the Midwest Conference Classic this past weekend. In leading Lawrence to a 3-2 record, the senior catcher from Green Bay went 10-for-17 with three doubles and three runs batted in. Philbrick-Linzmeyer, who also scored five runs, compiled a .765 slugging percentage and .632 on-base percentage. In the five games, she went 1-for-3 and scored the game-winning run vs. Illinois College, 3-for-4 vs. Lake Forest, 2-for-4 vs. Monmouth, 2-for-3 and drove in the game-winning run vs. Grinnell, and 2-for-3 vs. Knox. On the week, which also included a nonconference doubleheader split against Lakeland College, Philbrick-Linzmeyer batted .500 (12-24).
