Candice Gangl picked up her first career shutout to help Lawrence University to a 2-0 win over Ripon College on Sept. 8. The sophomore goalkeeper from Lakeville, Minn., made four saves to earn the victory. One save was simply spectacular, as the former Lakeville High School star leaped to her left to stop a shot at point-blank range. Gangl, who was named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week, lowered her goals against average to 2.33 and improved her save percentage to .750.
Hanah McCarthy
Women's Tennis
Hanah McCarthy is unbeaten on the young season for Lawrence University. Playing No. 1 singles, the freshman from Bozeman, Mont., has a 3-0 record and has a 2-0 record at No. 3 doubles with fellow freshman Tara Lahtinen. The former standout at Bozeman High School started her season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Danielle Racke of Knox College. McCarthy then defeated Monmouth College's Shauna Skowronski the following day. She kept her record perfect with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Trisha Dorr of Concordia University of Wisconsin. McCarthy and Lahtinen also posted a pair of 8-4 wins in doubles against Knox and Monmouth.
