Taylor Brengel
Swimming
Taylor Brengel, a sophomore from Milwaukee, Wis., won two events and swam on a second-place relay at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Jan. 27 and was named the Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week. The former star at Marquette High School won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.40 seconds and took first in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.37. He also swam on the 400 freestyle relay team, which grabbed second place in 3:31.08. Led by Brengel, who was named Swimmer of the Week earlier this season, the Lawrence men placed second in the team standings and were first among the Midwest Conference schools taking part.
Kalle Larsson
Hockey
Kalle Larsson, a senior forward, was named the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week after picking up seven points, a hat trick, and a pair of game-winning goals. Larsson, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, had a hat trick and an assist in Lawrence's 5-4 overtime win at Lake Forest on Jan. 23. He scored the first two goals of the game and then assisted on Billy Siers' game-tying goal with just 20 seconds left in regulation. Larsson then scored the game-winner 3:05 into overtime. Larsson then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in Lawrence's 7-3 victory over Minnesota-Crookston on Jan. 26. He finished his week with a pair of assists in Lawrence's 4-1 win over Crookston on Jan. 27.
Julia Ziege
Swimming
Julia Ziege won one event, placed second in two others and swam on a winning relay team at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Jan. 27. The freshman from Madison, Wis., won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:30.56 and swam on the first-place 400 medley relay team, which posted a winning time of 4:23.83. She also grabbed second in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.61 and took second in the 200 backstroke in 2:20.58. Led by her effort, Lawrence placed second in the team standings and easily outdistanced the four other Midwest Conference schools taking part.
