In his only appearance of the week, Chris Clouthier tossed his first career shutout in the opener of Lawrence's four-game series with Carroll. The senior left-handed pitcher from Appleton, Wis., allowed six hits, struck out two and walked two in Lawrence's 10-0 victory. He survived getting hit in the face by a line drive in the third inning. The ball deflected off his glove and struck him in the left checkbone. Only one Carroll runner advanced as far as third base in the contest against Clouthier, who improved to 3-5 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.78.
Ryan Knox
Golf
Ryan Knox capped his Lawrence career in style by earning a place on the all-conference team with his play at the Midwest Conference Championships. The senior from Milton, Wis., finished in eighth place at the 54-hole event on the par-72 layout at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill. He carded rounds of 85, 76, and 78 for a total of 239, which tied him with Knox College's Nolan Scanlon. Knox parred the first playoff hole to earn eighth place.
Tommy Schmidt
Baseball
Tommy Schmidt batted a blistering .750 for the week by going 12-for-16 with three doubles, two homers and nine runs batted in in four games against Carroll. Schmidt, who scored eight runs, compiled a .789 on-base percentage and an astounding 1.313 slugging percentage on his way to being named Midwest Conference Player of the Week. The sophomore first baseman from Two Rivers, Wis., started his week by going 4-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs in Lawrence's 10-0 victory in the series opener. He also went 1-for-2 in the nightcap of that doubleheader, a 4-3 Lawrence win. In game three of the series, a 15-14 Lawrence win, Schmidt went 2-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. In the series finale, Schmidt tied the school record for hits in a game by going 5-for-5 with a double, a homer, three runs scored and six RBIs.
