Women's Tennis
Hanah McCarthy won three matches at No. 2 singles and two at No. 1 doubles during the past week and was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week. The sophomore from Bozeman, Mont., helped the Vikings open Midwest Conference play with a 5-4 win over Carroll College, and Lawrence also earned nonconference wins over UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point. In the win over Carroll, the former star at Bozeman High School beat Emily Linse 6-1, 6-3 in singles and then teamed with Susan Klumpner to beat Linse and Hana Poser 9-7 in doubles. In a 5-4 win over UW-Stevens Point, McCarthy beat Emily Riordan 6-1, 6-2 in singles and teamed with Susan Klumpner to beat Emily Bouche and Cathy Thornburg 8-5 in doubles. McCarthy scored the decisive point in Lawrence's 5-4 win over UW-Oshkosh. After a loss in doubles, she came back to beat Rachel Minerath 5-7, 7-6, 10-7 in singles to give Lawrence the victory. McCarthy improved to 6-3 on the season in both singles and doubles.

Aljay Wren topped the century mark twice in a loss to St. Norbert College, as he piled up 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving. A check of recent Lawrence football records failed to find another player who had pulled off this unique double. The junior running back from Cottage Grove, Wis., carried the ball 19 times for 103 yards, a 5.4-yard average, and a touchdown. The former Monona Grove High School start also caught four passes for 122 yards, a 30.5-yard average, and a touchdown. He scored on a 60-yard reception in the third quarter and on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. On the season, Wren leads the team in both rushing and receiving. He has 49 carries for 236 yards and nine catches for 248 yards.
