Candice Gangl
Women's Soccer
Candice Gangl posted 166 shutout minutes in goal and picked up her first career assist during the past week. The junior goalkeeper from Lakeville, Minn., got her first shutout of the season in Lawrence's 1-0 win over Ripon. She made six saves for her sixth career shutout. Gangl made two saves in 76 minutes before being relieved by backup Lindsay Ahlen in Lawrence's 3-0 win over MSOE. Gangl also picked up an assist against MSOE when her goal kick turned into a breakaway goal for Jackie Bean in the 55th minute.
Derek Micke
Football
Derek Micke had a pair of big punt returns, including one for a touchdown, in Lawrence's 45-18 rout of Grinnell and was named the Midwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Micke, who finished with two returns for 115 yards, returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. It was the first punt return for a touchdown by Lawrence since Zach Michael did it against Grinnell in 2002. Micke then had a 45-yard punt return to the Grinnell 42-yard line, which set up Lawrence's fifth touchdown of the first quarter. On the season, the sophomore cornerback from Kaukauna, Wis., is averaging 21.4 yards on seven punt returns, which ranks him fourth in the nation.
Aljay Wren
Football
Aljay Wren did a lot of damage in a little amount of time on Saturday against Grinnell. Wren, who played a little more than a quarter in Lawrence's 45-18 rout of the Pioneers, rushed six times for 126 yards, a 21-yard per carry average, and caught one pass for 21 yards while scoring a pair of touchdowns. The junior from Cottage Grove, Wis., had a 56-yard touchdown run just 1:03 into the game and scored on a 7-yard run just 4:34 into the contest to put Lawrence up 21-0. Wren had a 49-yard run to set up his second touchdown. On the season, Wren has carried 55 times for 362 yards, a 6.6-yard average, and has scored four touchdowns. He also is Lawrence's leading receiver with 10 catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns.
