Joe Austin
Football
Joe Austin was causing havoc for the Lake Forest College offense this past Saturday in Lawrence's 22-6 win over the Foresters. Austin, a senior safety from Haslett, Mich., was responsible for all three of Lake Forest's lost fumbles. He stripped a wide receiver deep in Lawrence territory and Billy Bodle recovered to stop a drive early in the second quarter. Midway through the second quarter, Austin stripped running back Sam Kotler and recovered the fumble himself. He then sacked quarterback Jeff Ziemnik to force a fumble and Brian Janssen scooped up that ball and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. Austin finished the day with seven tackles, including a pair of sacks.
Billy Bodle
Football
Billy Bodle turned in a pair of big plays to stop Lake Forest College drives in Lawrence's 22-6 victory over the Foresters. The senior roverback from Highland Park, Ill., recovered a fumble and made a spectacular interception in the first half. Teammate Joe Austin stripped a Lake Forest wide receiver early in the second quarter, and Bodle was there to pick up the loose ball. Late in the first half, the Foresters had blocked a punt and were in prime position to break a scoreless tie with the ball deep in Lawrence territory. Quarterback Jeff Ziemnik's third-and-goal pass was tipped, and Bodle made a diving interception in the end zone with only five seconds left in the half. He finished the game with five tackles, including one for loss.
Brian Janssen
Football
Brian Janssen scored his first collegiate touchdown in Lawrence's 22-6 victory over Lake Forest College. Janssen, a freshman linebacker from Ashwaubenon, picked up the fumble of Foresters quarterback Jeff Ziemnik in the third quarter and returned it 70 yards for a score in the third quarter. It was the first fumble return for a touchdown by the Vikings since Joe Vander Zanden did it against Beloit in 2004. Janssen finished with six tackles, including two for loss and a sack.
Evan Neuens
Football
Evan Neuens turned in what proved to be the momentum-changing play of the game in Lawrence's 22-6 win over Lake Forest College. The sophomore cornerback from Niagara grabbed his first career interception on Lake Forest's first possession of the third quarter. He stepped in front of a screen pass and returned it 39 yards to the Lake Forest 18-yard line. The Vikings scored four plays later, and the momentum had swung. Lawrence scored on its next possession as well and pulled away for the win. Neuens
