Matt Frelich
Football
Freshman defensive lineman Matt Frelich turned in a great all-around game and made a key play in Lawrence's 8-6 victory at Knox. Frelich, a native of Denmark, Wis., recorded a career-high 11 tackles against the Prairie Fire. He had two tackles for loss, which included a sack, and forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Mike Gostisha. After Knox scored its lone touchdown of the day, Frelich blocked Kevin Malone's extra-point attempt. The ball was scooped up by Vikings cornerback Derek Micke, who returned it for a two-point defensive conversion.
Derek Micke
Football
Derek Micke was named the Midwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in Lawrence's 8-6 victory at Knox. Micke, a sophomore cornerback from Kaukauna, Wis., returned a blocked extra-point attempt for a two-point defensive conversion, and that proved to be the difference in the game. Kevin Malone's kick was blocked by Matt Frelich, and Micke picked up the loose ball and raced to the end zone for two points. It was the first defensive extra point for the Vikings since Jacques Hacquebord did it against Knox in 2001.
