Week of October 16-22, 2006
Derek Micke
Football
Derek Micke was named the Midwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time this season for his role in Lawrence's 13-7 victory over Beloit. The sophomore cornerback/punt returner from Kaukauna, Wis., was also forced into the role of emergency punter in the win over the Bucs. He punted four times for an average of only 26.8 yards, but he pinned the Bucs inside their 20-yard line three times. Trailing 7-3 late in the third quarter and facing a fourth-and-3 at the Beloit 41, Micke faked a punt and ran eight yards for a first down. That kept a drive alive and later led to a Lawrence field goal. Micke also returned five punts for 46 yards, a 9.2-yard average. He also recorded three solo tackles, including one for loss, and intercepted a pass late in the game to seal the victory.
Jeremy Reider
Football
Jeremy Reider spearheaded Lawrence's defensive effort in a 13-7 win over Beloit. The sophomore nose guard from Appleton, Wis., recorded seven tackles, including three for loss and a sack. He also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter at the Beloit 30-yard line with the Vikings trailing 7-6. Lawrence scored the game-winning touchdown two plays later. With Reider causing havoc in the Beloit backfield all afternoon, the Bucs were limited to just 86 total yards. Beloit had only 58 yards rushing on 37 carries, an average of 1.6 yards per carry.
