Josh Peterson, a junior defenseman from Duluth, Minn., led a superlative defensive effort in Lawrence's weekend sweep of Northland. The Vikings beat the Lumberjacks 3-2 last Friday and 5-0 on Saturday. In Saturday's shutout, Lawrence held Northland to just 11 shots, the lowest total by an opponent in four years. The Vikings also limited Northland to a 2-for-22 showing on its power play for the weekend. Peterson, who was named the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week, picked up two assists in each game.
Julia Ziege
Women's Swimming
Julia Ziege won two events and swam on two winning relays, as Lawrence beat UW-River Falls in a dual meet this past Saturday. Ziege, who was named the Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week, won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.23 and took first in the 200 backstroke in 2:20.39. The Madison, Wis., native was part of the first-place 400 medley relay in 4:25.09 and the first-place 400 freestyle relay in 3:55.85. Lawrence won the meet 168-125.
