Men's Basketball
Andy Hurley averaged a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 57.9 percent from the floor, as Lawrence split a pair of Midwest Conference games. The senior forward from Kimberly, Wis., scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded three blocks in Lawrence's 65-56 win at St. Norbert on Jan. 30. He scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in Lawrence's 115-113 double-overtime loss to Carroll.
Nick Jennette
Hockey
Nick Jennette scored six goals as the Vikings swept a weekend series from the University of Minnesota-Crookston. In Lawrence's 5-3 victory over Crookston on Feb. 1, Jennette scored four times, tying for the second-highest game total in Lawrence history. Jennette's four goals tied Chris Henderson, who scored four times against Illinois Benedictine on Nov. 21, 1998. The junior forward from Grand Rapids, Mich., scored a pair of power-play goals in a two-minute span in the second period that gave Lawrence a 3-0 lead. He then picked up his first career hat trick on an even-strength goal at 7:04 of the third that gave the Vikings a 4-1. That goal also proved to be the game-winner. Jennette got his fourth goal on an empty-netter with 21 seconds left. Jennette added a pair of goal in Lawrence's 8-7 overtime win on Feb. 2.
Madeline Steininger
Women's Track and Field
Madeline Steininger won one event and broke a school record at the University of Chicago Duals on Feb. 2. The sophomore from New Berlin, Wis., won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches. Steininger, who was named the Midwest Conference Field Performer of the Week, broke the record of 5-2 set by Vickie Leathers in 1993. She also ran a personal best on her way to finishing third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.22 seconds. Steininger also placed seventh in the long jump, tying her personal best with a leap of 15-9.75. She also took 16th in the 200 meters by running a season-best time of 28.80 seconds.
Hayley Vatch
Women's Swimming
Hayley Vatch won two events and broke a pair of meet records in the process to lead Lawrence to a second-place finish in the team standings at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Feb. 2. The junior from Elmhurst, Ill., won the 500-yard freestyle in a record time of 5:18.73. Vatch also broke the meet record on her way to winning the 1,650 freestyle in 18:24.62. She also placed second in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.66.
