Week of September 17-23, 2007
Vince Butitta
Men's Soccer
Vince Butitta scored his first two career goals to help the Vikings to a 1-0-1
record this past week. The freshman from Delavan, Wis., broke a 1-1 tie with
his goal in the 82nd minute of what would end as a 2-2 tie with Ripon on Sept.
18. Butitta beat the Ripon goalkeeper to a pass from Colin Vize, headed the
ball out in front of him and then found the empty net for his first career
score. In a 2-1 win over MSOE on Sept. 22, Butitta broke a 0-0 tie when he
scored in the 52nd minute off a pass from Joe Sluhoski. Butitta was named
the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Sarah Ehlinger
Women's Soccer
Sarah Ehlinger netted the first hat trick for a Lawrence player since 2004
in a 7-1 win over Ripon on Sept. 19 in the Vikings' only action of the week.
Ehlinger, who posted the first hat trick by a Viking since Greta Raaen did
it against Beloit on Oct. 2, 2004, scored in the 34th minute to give Lawrence
a 1-0 lead. Ehlinger then broke the game open early in the second half, as
she scored two goals in a span of 1:24 in the 51st and 52nd minutes to stake
the Vikings to a 4-1 lead. Lawrence added another goal 1:11Żlater. Ehlinger
now has five goals on the season, and the seven-goal outburst gave Lawrence
its biggest offensive day since a 9-0 win over Knox on Oct. 2, 2005.
