Marc Howe had three goals and an assist, as Lawrence swept a weekend series from Northland College by the scores of 4-3 and 4-0. The sophomore forward from Cedarburg, Wis., was named the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week. Howe jump-started Lawrence's offense last on Dec. 7 by scoring the first goal of the game and later sparking a Lawrence comeback. The Vikings trailed 3-1 when Howe assisted on Josh DeSmit's goal to cut the deficit in half. After the Vikings tied the score at 3-3 midway through the third period, Howe scored the game-winning goal with 4:15 left in the contest. In the win on Dec. 8, Howe picked up his first short-handed goal of the season to give Lawrence a 2-0 lead early in the second period.

Jim Ryan
Hockey

Jim Ryan picked up his first career shutout and ran his scoressless minute streak to 109:17. A junior goaltender from Manteno, Ill., Ryan made 17 saves to pick up the shutout in a 4-0 win over Northland on Dec. 8. In Lawrence's 4-3 win over Northland on Dec. 7, Ryan came on in relief midway through the second period and stopped all eight shots he faced. For the season, Ryan increased his save percentage to .949 and lowered his goals against average to 1.09.
