Week of January 26-February 1, 2009

Marva Goodson
Track and Field

Marva Goodson broke one school record, tied another, and became a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships at the Carthage Invitational on Jan. 30. Goodson was named the Midwest Conference Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week. A sophomore from Saginaw, Mich., Goodson won the long jump and placed in two more events to lead Lawrence at the Carthage Invitational this past Saturday. Goodson took first in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2.25 inches, which makes her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships. She has the fifth-longest jump in the nation this season and no one else in the Midwest Conference has jumped farther than 16-10. Goodson also took third in the 200 meters in 26.94 seconds, breaking the school record of 27.05 set by Diana Ling in 1993. She grabbed fourth in the 55 meters in 7.48 seconds, tying the record Ling set in 1994. Goodson's time in the 55 also is the fastest in the MIdwest Conference this season.

Jameson Raymond
Hockey

Jameson Raymond scored both game-winning goals in Lawrence's sweep at Minnesota-Crookston on Jan. 29-30 and was named the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Freshman of the Week. The defenseman from Flint, Mich., scored the first goal in Lawrence's 2-0 shutout on Jan. 29. He then scored a power-play goal midway through the third period, and that proved to be the game-winner in the 5-4 victory on Jan. 30. Raymond was plus-3 on the weekend and also helped limit Crookston to 2-for-8 on the power play for the series.

Hayley Vatch
Women's Swimming

Hayley Vatch broke two meet records at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Jan. 30 and was named the Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week.
