Jayce Apelgren
Men's Basketball
Jayce Apelgren shot 66.7 percent from the floor in three road games, all Lawrence victories, as the Vikings handed St. Norbert its first conference loss of the season and then won two more games in two days. The senior guard from Waterford, Wis., shot 16 of 24 from the floor and hit 5 of 9 3-point attempts in the three games. Apelgren scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had two assists in Lawrence's 75-52 victory at No. 11 St. Norbert on Feb. 3. Apelgren then poured in a career-high 24 points, including 14 straight points in a key second-half run, in Lawrence's 86-76 victory at Illinois College on Feb. 6. He added three rebounds and one assist. Apelgren then scored a game-high 15 points, had three rebounds, and one assist in Lawrence's 93-67 victory at Knox on Feb. 7.
Marva Goodson
Track and Field
Marva Goodson broke the Lawrence record in the 55 meters and won the long jump at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Feb. 7. The sophomore from Saginaw, Mich., shattered the record in the 55 when she ran to third place in 7.42 seconds. That broke the mark of 7.48, which she held with Diana Ling. Goodson also jumped 17 feet, 11.75 inches to win the long jump. She has the top performances in both of those events in the Midwest Conference.
Madeline Steininger
Track and Field
Madeline Steininger won the high jump on Feb. 7 at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational and now has the top performance in that event in the Midwest Conference. The junior from Milwaukee, Wis., jumped 5 feet, 3.5 inches, to take first place. She also placed 15th in the 55-meter hurdles and 18th in the long jump.
