Jayce Apelgren
Men's Basketball
Jayce Apelgen led Lawrence to two victories and was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week. The senior guard from Waterford, Wis., averaged 22 points while shooting 75 percent from the floor (15-20) as Lawrence won two games to claim the conference championship. Apelgren also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. In a 92-68 win over Beloit College on Feb. 18, Apelgren scored 16 points while hitting 6 of 9 shots from the floor. He followed that with a career-high 28 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the floor in a 97-75 win at Ripon on Feb. 21. In the two games, Apelgren also connected on all 10 of his free-throw attempts and was 4 of 7 on 3-pointers.
Marva Goodson
Track and Field
Marva Goodson won two events and took second in another at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on Feb. 21 and was named the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week. The sophomore from Saginaw, Mich., won the 200 meters in a school-record time of 26.49 seconds. She broke her own record of 26.93 seconds. Goodson also placed second in the 55 meters in 7.49 seconds. Goodson also won the long jump with a leap of 6 feet, 10 inches.
Nick Jennette
Hockey
Nick Jennette led Lawrence to a sweep of its Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinal playoff series from Concordia (Wis.) on Feb. 20-21. A senior forward from Grand Rapids, Mich., Jennette tied the school record for career goals, topped the 100-point plateau, and broke the NCAA record for consecutive games played in the series finale. Jennette had a goal in Lawrence's 4-0 win in the series opener and then had two goals and an assist in the series finale, a 5-3 Lawrence win. Jennette tied the career goals record of 48 and now has 102 points, one shy of the school record. He also has played in 110 consecutive games, breaking the NCAA record of 109.
