Week of March 23-29, 2009
Andy Frelich
Baseball
Andy Frelich had a good week at the plate and on the mound during Lawrence's spring break trip to Florida. The junior from Maribel, Wis., batted .308 while seeing the first plate appearances of his collegiate career. He had a pair of doubles, a homer, and drove in four runs. In his only start of the week, Frelich got all but the final out. He allowed five hits and only one earned run in Lawrence's 7-4 victory over Grinnell. Frelich also homered for the Vikings.
Carli Gurholt
Softball
Carli Gurholt earned Midwest Conference Player of the Week honors after a week of hot hitting on Lawrence's spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. The sophomore shortstop from Scandinavia, Wis., hit .433 and put on a display of power hitting during Lawrence's 10 games in Florida. Gurholt blasted six homers and drove in 17 runs. Gurholt belted a pair of homers in Lawrence's 11-6 win over D'Youville to tie the school game record for round-trippers. She drove in six runs in that game, which was one shy of tying the school game record. Gurholt is just one home run short of tying the school season record of seven, which was set by teammate Alex Goodson in 2007. Gurholt, who went 13-for-30, had also had a pair of doubles and posted an impressive 1.100 slugging percentage.
