Women's Soccer

Lawrence women's soccer standout Lindsey Ahlen was been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of shutouts. Ahlen, a junior goalkeeper from Lawrence, Kan., turned in her best performance of the season in a 1-0 overtime shutout of Monmouth on Oct. 18 and followed that with 80-plus minutes of scoreless time in net in a 4-0 win over Illinois College on Oct. 19. Ahlen made 13 saves in 96-plus minutes, as the Vikings beat Monmouth. She followed that 80 shutout minutes against Illinois College before giving way to a backup in the Vikings' victory over the Lady Blues.

Women's Tennis

Emily Dalton teamed with Emma Kent to win the No. 3 doubles title at the Midwest Conference Championships in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 18. Dalton, a senior from Hartford, Wis., and Kent beat Grinnell's Jill Akiyama and Kelsey Picken 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the title match. Dalton and Kent defeated St. Norbert's Anna Reardon and Lauren Lathers 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals and downed Carroll's Tricia Goska and AlexAnna Henneberry 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Emma Kent claimed a pair of titles at the Midwest Conference Championships Oct. 18-19 in Madison, Wis. A senior from Bellingham, Wash., Kent won the No. 6 singles title and teamed with Emily Dalton to win at No. 3 doubles. Kent toppled Grinnell's Curran Johnson 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 in the championship match. She downed St. Norbert's Anna Reardon 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals and topped Knox's Rachel Clark 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Kent and Dalton beat Grinnell's Jill Akiyama and Kelsey Picken 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the title match. Dalton and Kent defeated St. Norbert's Anna Reardon and Lauren Lathers 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals and downed Carroll's Tricia Goska and AlexAnna Henneberry 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Beth Larson
Women's Tennis

Beth Larson became the first Lawrence women's tennis player to win the No. 1 singles title at the Midwest Conference Championships in more than two decades. Larson, a freshman from Maplewood, Minn., won the title Oct. 19 in Madison, Wis., to become the first Lawrence player since Anita Salzberger in 1987 to win the top singles flight. Larson beat Beloit's Hannah Perwin 6-3, 6-2 in the title match. Larson beat Carroll's Emily Linse 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and then dispatched Grinnell's Toby Cain 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
