Laura Aerts
Women's Basketball
Laura Aerts poured in a career-high 28 points in a loss to Lake Forest on Jan. 16 and broke a school record in the process. The senior guard from Kimberly, Wis., was 12-for-12 on free throws to set a Lawrence record for free throw percentage in a game. The previous mark was 8-for-8, which was held by 10 players. Aerts also hit 7 of 16 shots from the floor. She zoomed past her previous career high of 21 points, which she had done twice this season.
Marc Howe
Hockey
Marc Howe lifted Lawrence to a victory and broke the school's career scoring record in the process. The senior forward from Cedarburg, Wis., scored the game-winning goal 3:41 into overtime on Jan. 16 to lift the Vikings to a 4-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Finlandia. Howe also scored earlier in the game and now has 104 points for his career, breaking the record of 103 set by Ryan Blick in 2003 and tied by Nick Jennette in 2009.
Emily Muhs
Track and Field
Emily Muhs opened the indoor season with a victory in the 3,000 meters at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Opener on Jan. 15. The sophomore from Janesville, Wis., battled with St. Norbert's Amanda Whipple and edged her at the line. Muhs won the race in 11:29.14, with Whipple taking second in 11:29.34. It was a personal record for Muhs and her first collegiate track victory.
Sam Stevens
Track and Field
Sam Stevens got his collegiate track career off to a good start with a victory in the 800 meters at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Opener on Jan. 15. The freshman from Suamico, Wis., won the race in 2:01.33, taking first by more than two seconds over UW-Whitewater's Kyle O’Rourke. Stevens, who was named the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week, also ran on Lawrence's 1,600-meter relay team, which took fourth place in 3:48.57.
