Peter Brengel
Men's Swimming

Peter Brengel won a pair of individual titles and broke a trio of records at the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Lawrence's Boldt Natatorium on Feb. 12-14. The sophomore from Milwaukee, Wis., won the 100-yard backstroke and 200 backstroke. Led by Brengel, the Lawrence men finished fourth with 365.50 points. Brengel won the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.20 seconds, barely missing his own meet record of 52.13. Brengel's performance also surpassed the NCAA "B" qualifying standard. Brengel then won the 200 backstroke in a record-breaking time of 1:53.90. He broke the school, meet and Boldt Natatorium record of Lawrence's Chas Mitchell. Mitchell time of 1:55.62 had stood as the mark to beat since 1996. Brengel also surpassed the NCAA "B" qualifying standard in the process.

Rebecca Hamlyn
Women's Swimming

Rebecca Hamlyn led the Larence with a trio of top-four finishes at the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Boldt Natatorium on Feb. 12-14. The junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, was edged for the title in the 100-yard butterfly. She took second in 1:00.20, with Lake Forest's Ellen Stoehr winning in 1:00.18. Hamlyn also grabbed third in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.14 and took fourth in the 200 butterfly in 2:20.82. Hamlyn led Lawrence to seventh place in the team standings with 271 points.
