Week of April 19-25, 2010
Cooper Smith
Men's Tennis
Cooper Smith, a freshman from San Diego, Calif., returned from injury to help Lawrence win the first North Division title in school history, and he was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week. Since the league went to divisional play in 1993, the Vikings had finished second numerous times, but Lawrence’s 5-4 win over St. Norbert on April 25 gave the Vikings a 4-0 mark and the divisional crown. Smith, who had been sidelined for weeks with a leg injury, teamed with Peter Mohr for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles and then turned in a dominating 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.
David Zane
Men's Track and Field
David Zane turned in the top performance for Lawrence at the Marquette Twilight on April 24. A junior from San Rafael, Calif., finished second behind a Division I runner in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was named the Midwest Conference Track Performer of the Week. Zane’s time of 10:10.36 places him third among all the performances from this season.
