Clare Bohrer led the Vikings to a 2-1 record on the week and was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.The junior middle hitter from Eau Claire, Wis., piled up 49 kills, a .324 hitting percentage, 16 blocks, 11 digs and four aces for the week. The Vikings handed Monmouth its first conference loss and also rallied to beat Illinois College. In a 3-1 victory over Monmouth, which was 6-0 in the MWC, on Oct. 22, Bohrer had 18 kills and hit .389 for the match. Bohrer also had a school-record 12 blocks, breaking the record of 11 set by Kayte Hansen in 1999, three digs and two aces. In a 3-2 victory over Illinois College on Oct. 23, Bohrer had 20 kills, three blocks, three digs and a pair of aces. In a 3-0 loss at St. Norbert College, Bohrer had 11 kills, five digs and one block.

Brad Scurfield
Hockey

Brad Scurfield scored the game-winning goal, a short-hander, with 1:39 left in regulation to lift Lawrence to a 5-4 season-opening victory at UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 23. Scurfield's first short-handed goal of his career came after the Vikings were whistled for checking from behind. The sophomore forward from Midland, Mich., also scored the first goal of the game on the power play at the 12:24 mark of the first period. The victory was Lawrence's first in a season opener on the road since 1997. It also marked the first time Lawrence had defeated UW-Stevens Point in five games.
