Phil Bushbacher scored two goals and picked up an assist in Lawrence's Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinal series victory over Finlandia on Feb. 24-25. In a 5-1 victory on Feb. 24, Bushbacher picked up a goal and an assist. The junior from Wilmette, Ill., then scored a key goal on a great individual effort in Lawrence's 2-2 tie with the Lions on Feb. 25. Bushbacher took the faceoff at the 7:30 mark of the second period to the right of Finlandia goalkeeper Mike Wuthrich. The draw went toward the net, and Bushbacher battled to the puck and beat Wuthrich to tie the game at 2-2. That proved to be the game-tying goal and clinched the series victory for Lawrence.
Sam Stevens
Track and Field
Sam Stevens won one title to lead Lawrence at the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25. The junior from Suamico, Wis., won the 5,000 meters on Feb. 24 in a time of 15:21.93. Stevens then took third in the 3,000 meters in 8:53.38 on Feb. 25. Stevens also anchored the distance medley relay team, which placed second in 10:42.41.
