NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at Rock Island, Ill. (November 13)

The Lawrence men finished 26th among the 30 teams. The competitors for Lawrence were: Paul Schonfeld (119th, 26:37.9), David Quinlan (147th, 27:16.6), Phil Keith (150th, 27:19.1), Kyle Hewitt (152nd, 27:26.0), Mitch goodman (156th, 27:40.6), Kevin White (179th, 28:44.0), Corey Lehnert (195th, 29:48.1).

The Lawrence women were 15th among the 37 teams. Running for Lawrence were: Colleen Detjens (40th, 22:47.4), Cate Frazier (46th, 22:51.1), Kelly Scheer (97th, 23:50.3), Rachel Lucas (105th, 23:56.7), Joy Manweiler (137th, 24:31.3), Alice Shepro (142nd, 24:38.1), and Michelle Uthmeier (170th, 25:32.5).

Wisconsin Private College Championships at Concordia University of Wisconsin (October 16)

The Lawrence women took second place and the men were third. Carthage won the women's title with 59 points, and Lawrence was second with 72. Cate Frazier paced the Vikings by taking fifth place in 19 minutes, 59 seconds, on the 5,000-meter course. Colleen Detjens grabbed seventh in 20:04, Rachel Lucas was tenth in 20:19, and Joy Manweiler was 19th in 20:45. All four earned all-state honors. Carthage also took the men's title, totaling 56 points. St. Norbert was second with 69, and Lawrence took third at 114. David Quinlan led the Lawrence contingent by taking 13th in 27:59 on the 8,000-meter course and earned all-state honors in the process. Mitchell Goodman took 21st in 28:15 and was on the all-state team as well.

Beloit College Old English Classic (October 9)

The Lawrence women placed eighth out of 11 teams with 188 points. Lawrence was led by freshman Cate Frazier, who placed 12th with a time of 20 minutes, 30 seconds. Also in the top 30 were Joy Manweiler (27th, 21:21) and Rachel Lucas (30th, 21:28). Rounding out the Lawrence runners were Mary Markowitz (52nd, 23:32) and Cami Bowers (67th, 30:57). Finishing in eighth place out of 17 teams with 214 points, the Lawrence men were paced by David Quinlan, who was 28th in 27:57. Also competing for the Vikings were: Paul Schonfeld (34th, 28:13), Mitch Goodman (41st, 28:34), Kyle Hewitt (46th, 28:57), Corey Lehnert (65th, 30:28), Russell Geisthardt (82nd, 31:27), Evan Jacobson (93rd, 32:09), and Pat Breese (123rd, 32:34).


Ripon College Invitational (October 2)

The Lawrence women took third, and Rachel Lucas paced the Vikings. Lucas took third place in a time of 20 minutes, 40.69 seconds, on the 5,000-meter course. Rounding out Lawrence's finishers were: Joy Manweiler (12th, 21:36.37), Michelle Uthmeier (13th, 21:48.51), Mary Markowitz (25th (23:39.75), and Gina Muto (30th, 24:06.81). The Lawrence men tied for second, with David Quinlan leading the way. Quinlan was sixth in 28:26.23 on the 8,000-meter course. Paul Schonfeld was right on his heels, taking seventh in 28:36.59, and Kyle Hewitt was eighth in 29:06.53. Rouding out the top seven runners for the Vikings were: Evan Jacobson (13th, 29:59.20), Kevin White (18th, 30:35.82), Mitch Goodman (22nd, 30:50.73), and Corey Lehnert (23rd, 30:53.74).


University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational (September 25)

Catherine Frazier led the Lawrence women by taking 39th overall in 24 minutes, 51 seconds, on the 6,000-meter course. The Vikings had a team score of 456 while running without standout Colleen Detjens. Lawrence took 16th place and Luther College won the team title with 79 points. Other finishers for the Lawrence women were: Rachel Lucas (47th, 25:04), Kelly Scheer (110th, 26:24), Joy Manweiler (119th, 26:36), Clare Shinners (141st, 27:57), Michelle Uthmeier (149th, 29:15), and Mary Markowitz (154th, 29:43).

The Lawrence men were 33rd among the 40 teams with 927 points. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the title with 87 points. Paul Schonfeld paced the Vikings by finishing 138th in 28:23 on the 8-kilometer course. Leading the rest of the Lawrence contingent was David Quinlan (154th, 28:38), and he was followed by Mitch Goodman (202nd, 29:37), Kyle Hewitt (206th, 29:41), Evan Jacobson (227th, 30:39), Corey Lehnert (248th, 31:52), and Kevin White (252nd, 32:21).


Midwest Collegiate Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (September 18)

The Lawrence women were tenth among the 28 teams with 320 points. Edinboro won the meet with 41 points. Cate Frazier was Lawrence's top finisher. She took 37th in 19 minutes, 51 seconds. The Lawrence men were 22nd among the 34 teams with 605 points. Iowa State won the meet with 41 points. Paul Schonfeld took 83rd in 28:09 to pace the Lawrence finishers.


Lawrence University Invitational (September 11)

The Lawrence women placed third among the 11 teams with 86 points. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh "B" squad was first with 38 points, and St. Norbert College was second with 82. Ripon College was fourth (110), Carroll College was fifth (123), UW-Stevens Point was sixth (136), Lake Forest College took seventh (170), Monmouth College was eighth (177), Northland Baptist was ninth (239), Alverno College was 10th (330), and Maranatha Baptist 11th (330).

Rosa Alvarez of UW-Oshkosh won the meet with a time of 19 minutes, 51.76 seconds, on the 5,000-meter course at High Cliff State Park. Cate Frazier paced Lawrence by taking eighth in 20:25.87. Rounding out the top seven for the Vikings were: Colleen Detjens (10th, 20:36.00), Rachel Lucas (15th, 20:54.76), Kelly Scheer (26th, 21:35.88), Joy Manweiler (27th, 21:38.25), Clare Shinners (38th, 22:20.54), and Mary Markowitz (49th, 23:14.33).

The Lawrence men were eighth with 191 points, and Carthage College won the meet with 25 points. UW-Stevens Point took second (69), followed by Monmouth (89), St. Norbert (130), Ripon (149), Lake Forest (151), the Milwaukee School of Engineering (173), Lawrence (191), Carroll (264), Maranatha (323), and Northland (332).

Zach Barr of Monmouth won the 8,000-meter race in 26:31.53. Paul Schonfeld led Lawrence by taking 28th in 28:51.25, and he was followed by Mitchell Goodman (31st, 28:59.33), David Quinlan (34th, 29:09.84), Kyle Hewitt (42nd, 29:41.04), Corey Lehnert (56th, 31:43.56), Evan Jacobson (62nd, 32:23.75), and Kevin White (68th, 33:21.71).

St. Norbert College Invitational (September 4)

The Lawrence women took second place in the 12-team meet. The Vikings had 63 points, four points behind St. Norbert College. Colleen Detjens led the Vikings by taking fifth place in 20 minutes, 36 seconds, on the 5,000-meter course. Catherine Frazier was 10th (20:53), Jay Manweiler took 11th (20:55), Alice Shepro was 18th (21:20), Kelly Scheer was 19th (21:31), Rachel Lucas was 20th (21:37), and Michele Uthmeier was 33rd (22:27) to round out the top seven for the Vikings.

The Lawrence men took fourth with 93 points, and St. Norbert won the title with 48. Paul Schonfeld paced Lawrence by taking 10th in 23:04 over the four-mile course. David Quinlan was close on his heels, taking 12th in 23:07. Rounding out the top seven for the Vikings were: Mitchell Goodman (19th, 23:48), Kyle Hewitt (22nd, 24:07), Corey Lehnert (30th, 25:16), Kevin White (31st, 25:40), and Russell Geisthardt (38th, 26:11).
