This special topics course will introduce students to Artificial Life and Digital Evolution, a field which uses computational methods to address biological questions and vice versa. Students will learn about "evolution as an algorithm", and how this algorithm can be (and has been) used to solve complex problems across biology, chemistry, engineering, computer science, and more. Students will have the opportunity to conduct their own evolutionary experiments in an existing Artificial Life system and present their results.
