Participation Criteria

The following established criteria will be used to determine the class participation grade. Using the criteria as a GUIDE, it will be left to the discretion of the instructor to determine the actual grade based on a range of a maximum of 100 percentage points.

RANGE:

STUDENT

A to A- range

  1. Participates actively in class: volunteers contributions in class frequently;
  2. Contributions are always to the point and mostly correct;
  3. Always completes all the assigned homework;
  4. Successfully interacts with the instructor and peers in Spanish, as much as possible at a given level.

B+ to B range

  1. Participates actively in class: volunteers contributions in class most of the time;
  2. Contributions are always to the point and usually are correct;
  3. Regularly completes homework assignments, but some may be incorrect;
  4. Makes an earnest attempt to interact with the instructor and peers in Spanish as much as possible.

B- to C+ range

  1. Participates in class occasionally, mostly when called upon,
  2. Contributions are always to the point and usually are correct;
  3. Completes homework assignments most of the time;
  4. Not always attempts to interact with the instructor and peers in Spanish as much as possible.

C to C-

  1. Student rarely participates in class, except when called upon;
  2. Contributions are of uneven quality;
  3. Misses some homework assignments;
  4. Tends to interact with the instructor and peers in English most of the time when the use of Spanish would be both possible and preferred at this level.

D+ to F

  1. Student rarely participates in class, except when called upon;
  2. Contributions are of poor quality; or the student declines to answer;
  3. Misses homework assignments;
  4. Interacts with the instructor and peers in English when the use of Spanish would be both possible and preferred at this level.
