Local Arrangements: Entertainment
Before the Keynote
We had the Geriatric Jazz Band play before and after the keynote address
Wednesday morning. They were well-received (as usual).
Before the Awards Banquet
Prior to, and during the early parts of, the awards banquet, we had a local
string quartet playing. They played for 45-60 minutes total (except during
announcements). That too was well-received.
The Thursday Night Party
This years's conference party was a Halloween costume party/dance. Decorations
were provided by a local event planner (RSVP) and were setup in the room
between the end of the WLA business meeting and the start of the bash.
Music was provided by a disc jockey (the "Compact-Disc Jockey" recruited
through Fortune Talent) who played a wide variety of music and seemed to do a
good job.
Once the committee decides what they want for these events (music? interpretive
dance?), arranging for entertainers is usually not a problem. There are many
talent services with lots of options to choose from.
