Liz's Creative Work
As an art major at Milwaukee-Downer, Liz learned to work in a variety of media. This exhibit contains sketches and watercolors from her college years, illustrations she completed for the Cumtux, the Milwaukee-Downer annual, and sketches from her advertising career. During her senior year, she won the Joseph E. Davies Prize for the best work by a student enrolled in a Wisconsin art school. The Wisconsin Salon of Art in Madison awarded it and Liz was taken aback by the recognition.
Liz also wrote short stories and poetry, something of which she was especially proud. In 1950, Milwaukee-Downer published one of her poems in Undergraduate Verse.
In recognition of her artistic talent, friends and family established the Elizabeth Richardson Prize given to a woman student excelling in studio art and art history. The first recipient was Margaret Edmonson Richards, M-D ’46. For more information about the recipients of the award, follow the link on the left side of this page.
