Pirates win Lawrence University's trivia title

APPLETON — After two straight runner-up finishes, Trivia Pirates ARGH!! captured the off-campus title in Lawrence University’s 46th annual Great Midwest Trivia contest this weekend.

Trivia Pirates edged Trivialeaks, 1,275-1,260, while “Scott Pilgrim vs. The Superbad Iowans in Revolt” finished third with 1,155 points among 69 offcampus teams.

Morgan Freeman’s Plus Plantz’s Pecorous Pastures Propose Presenting Persnickety Penguins with Ponchos won the on-campus title with 1,148 points. Soviet’s Dream of Gangbang and Go America All Over Everybody’s Asses finished second with 1,096 points, while Butter Our Bread with Butter — last year’s on-campus champion — placed third among 15 on-campus teams with 1,078 points A total of 376 questions were asked during the 50-hour contest, which ended at midnight Sunday.

For its efforts, Trivia Pirates received a piece of ceramics signed by all of the trivia masters on which one of the contest questions was based. The Morgan Freeman Plus Plantz team was presented an old documentary advertisement signed by all the trivia masters for winning the on-campus title.

No team was able to answer this year’s “Super Garruda,” the contest’s final question: “What was the log entry on September 29, 1961, at 2 p.m. PST in the Alamo Airways daily log at McCarran International Airport?” The answer: “Drunks called back. Left their pants in the apache. Said for me to take care of them.”
