Thursday, Feb. 23 (4:30pm) – next Campus Center Planning Committee meeting

Thursday, Feb. 23  (7pm) – student discussion on dining (LL2) and meal plans

Other discussions and planning work underway include:

-        faculty/staff “art” group is meeting (convened by Michael Orr)

-        faculty use of cinema for film classes and series (working with George Jura)

-        “green power” (Harold Ginke with WE Energies and Greg Volk)

The committee discussed the possible use of a Voyager survey for faculty and staff to allow all to offer input regarding ways in which they can envision using the Campus Center.  There would need to be links to information, floor plans, etc. to provide the necessary context for such a survey.  Nathan and Peter provided an update on the student session that occurred with Peter and Steven (landscape designers) where students heard more about the river area vegetation and ways in which they can be involved to preserve or re-introduce native species.  Students at that session expressed a strong preference for maintaining the natural look and environment of the slope and riverfront area.

The committee reviewed and discussed the floor plans that emerged from the last Uihlein-Wilson/KSS workshop.  Questions were raised about particulars such as security vehicles needing to cross the land bridge, clearance under the land bridge, necessary space for electrical closets (120 sq. ft. is needed for each such closet), catering movement through the gallery, and some specific concerns regarding air handling raised in a memo from Bill Wenszell to Harold Ginke.

We briefly discussed a communication strategy so that Campus Center planning remains front and center for the wider campus community.  Suggestions included moving the Campus Center planning portion of the website to a more prominent location, regular features in The Lawrentian, FAQs on the website, and display of the floor plan and 3D model (when available) in high-traffic areas on campus.

There will be no meeting on February 16th.  The next committee meeting is February 23, 2006 at 4:30pm.
