- Day 3 - Monday
- Osaka / Hiroshima / Kyoto
- Kasuien or Miyako Hotel
- Morning: Transfer to the Shin-Osaka Station for the JR
super express bound for Hiroshima
Upon arrival in
Hiroshima, sightseeing in the district and visit to Peace
Memorial Park, Peace Memorial Museum, and Atomic Bomb Dome
- Afternoon: Group will meet with a survivor of the A-bomb
blast.
- JR super express to Kyoto.
Day 4 - Tuesday
- Kyoto - Miyako Hotel
Day 5 - Wednesday
- Kyoto / Tokyo - Shiba Park Hotel
- Morning: Transfer to Kyoto Station for the JR super
express bound for Tokyo (a three hour trip)
- Afternoon: signtseeing tour of Tokyo and visit to Edo
Museum
Day 6 - Thursday
- Tokyo - Shiba Park Hotel
- Early Morning: (5:00 a.m.) to the Tsukiji Fish Market,
then return to hotel
- Morning: Sightseeing tour in Tokyo with visits to the
Tokyo Water Science Museum and the Museum of Emerging
Technology.
- Afternoon: Visit and briefing at Waseda University
- Dinner with Waseda students near the university
Day 7 - Friday
- Morning - free
- Afternoon: "Vertical Urban City" Presentation
- Dinner at a Tokyo restaurant
Day 8 - Saturday
- Travel by air to China
- Peace Hotel
Day 9 - Sunday
- Full day tour exploring environmental issues in
Beijing
Day 10 - Monday
- Full day tour of countryside to explore rural
environmental issues
Day 11 - Tuesday
- Beijing - Tokyo - Minneapolis - Appleton
- Fly to Narita Airport for flight back to the USA. Cross
the international dateline and return on the same
day.

The group consisted of 24 faculty and students from Lawrence. It was
sponsored by the Freeman Grant, which is dedicated to enhancing understanding
of Asian
cultures.
