1864 Rally 'round the flag, boys

During a patriotic rally in Main Hall, all single men in the class of 1864 enlist to fight in the Civil War.

1867 Emerging equality

George McKendree Steele, Lawrence's progressive third president, abolishes Lawrence's "Ladies Course," offers the same courses to men and women, and lists men and women faculty members in the same catalog.
