Along with the Canonic Dances, Temporal Shadows represents "generic" music for a student and teacher. All the movements are canons at the unison.  The range requires three octaves.  Although this performance features two bass clarinets, with the proper transpositions, many other instruments could be accommodated.  It was in this spirit of utility that these compositions were conceived. The challenge here rests with the comes (follower) to accurately mimic the execution of the dux (leader) during the performance.  It would be interesting to see these pieces choreographed by two dancers. The second dancer would imitate the motions of the first, both, being synchronized to their respective musical lines. The interest to me would be the resulting contrasting motions occurring at the same time.
